What does a Meat Buyer DO?
Put your energy and intelligence to work, keeping our multibillion dollar operation moving, and making a real difference.  In addition to being responsible for the procurement of meat products from manufactures and other sources while ensuring maximum profit margins and monitoring inventory levels, you’ll also be responsible for:


•    Engaging with customers on service levels and partner with vendors to successfully manage all aspects of product flow.
•    Procuring product from branded and non branded meat vendors while achieving targeted customer service level rates by monitoring, identifying, reacting to, communicating, and solving potential issues.
•    Negotiating with vendors and customers to maximize product flow, manage inventory levels and coordinate action against close coded, expired and other unproductive inventory. Interact with customers to communicate successes and resolve issues.
•    Accomplishing budgeted inventory levels, utilizing system tools to analyze and react to trends while maintaining ordering parameters and accurate manufacture and item information.
•    Consistently validate forecasting and item information to ensure synchronization of customer and vendor systems.
•    Collaborating with manufacturers, internal department, and support staff to accomplish both team and company goals. Partner with the merchandising group on new items, maintenance, and achievement of gross profit goals. Work with the warehouse group on inbound order issues, returns, vendor recalls, and prioritization of loads.
•    Participating in daily team meetings to ensure communication on implementation and status of company initiatives.
•    Performing the critical role as a mentor within the team. Support department efforts during non traditional hours ensuring overall department goals are met
•    Executing special assignments related to new business initiatives or special projects

Requirements:
To perform at a proficient level and be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:

•    Education: (Minimum Needed):  4 year degree or comparable working experience
•    Experience: (Minimum Needed): 3- 5 years experience (including buying and selling) in food industry a must; retail experience and experience in meat preferred

Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the Senior Buyer Planner provides support in both the supply chain area and in SAP systems support. As such, the ideal candidate would have strong background in SAP as a certified SAP Power User specializing in the supply chain management modules, capable of facilitating and managing new system and process development and introduction, as well as optimum use of the capabilities of the SAP system. The ideal candidate would also have extensive experience and expertise in production planning, master scheduling, strategic sourcing, tactical purchasing, and project management. The position would be involved in the implementation and administration of SMI/SMOI systems (including NOCTURNE). The position will also work with Corporate office to ensure that reporting capabilities from Data Warehouse are optimized, and that departmental personnel are trained in their effective use.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
. Support New Product Development Teams as the Materials Lead and be able to lead small projects as required from time to time.
. Oversee complex projects to completion and work effectively with little or no direct supervision.
. Source and purchase components, materials, equipment, tools, supplies and consulting services in support of production needs and the development of new products.
. Have experience in dealing with International suppliers.
. Assist in negotiating long-term agreements with key suppliers.
. Develop strategies and implement systematic improvements to optimize effective use of SAP for procurement planning and execution, as well as SMI/SMOI interfaces.
. Develop and implement demand forecasting models in SAP.
. Participate in, and where appropriate lead, multifunctional teams to develop supply chain transition strategies related to new processes, protocols, and/or system capabilities and enhancements.
. Analyze data and provide forward-looking sales information to the Manufacturing, Tactical Purchasing, and Global Sourcing functions to facilitate future capacity planning in their respective areas.
. Design and implement data gathering and reporting methods in SAP and Company Data Warehouse.
. Provide education and training as needed to Supply Chain personnel with respect to optimum use of SAP and SMI/SMOI system features and capabilities.
. Provide training and troubleshooting assistance to company suppliers for the SAP Supplier Portal interfaces.
. Work with suppliers to establish SMI/SMOI programs, and administer those programs.
. Plan and manage outsourced production and products.
. Coordinate monthly metrics review and reporting process for IDFs and performance metrics.
. Identify and resolve master data issues related to SAP Purchasing and Planning applications.
. Participate in project management for Purchasing-related continuous improvement projects.
. Assist Materials Manager in implementing purchasing improvements.
. Prepare selected management reports and analyses at the direction of the Materials Manager.

EDUCATION:
BS or BA degree mandatory; specialization in Business or Operations preferred.
